| Thomas Jefferson Dollar Coins |

The obverse, or front side of his coin features an image of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States of America. The wording on the coin includes Jefferson's name, the phrase "3rd President" and includes the years which Jefferson served in the office, 1801 - 1809. Jefferson's predecessor was John Adams of Massachusetts; he was succeeded by James Madison of Virginia. The reverse (rear) side of the Jefferson Presidential Dollars will feature a picture of the Statue of Liberty and the words, "United States of America," and includes the denomination of "$1." This coin will be made of the same metal, in terms of composition and weight as the Sacagawea Dollar coin is currently made. The Sacagawea Dollar will continue to be produced during the course of the Presidential Dollar Program. The coins in this series are the first American coins produced since the year 1933 to have lettering along the edge of the coin (edge lettering). The new dollar will feature the words "In God We Trust," "E Pluribus Unum" and the date of production (2007) along the rim of the coin. |
